CHARITY RESPONSE TO REVIEW: The Fergus Falls Senior Citizens Program has been identified nationally as a “Center of Excellence” by the National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) New Models of Senior Centers Task Force. This designation was due in large part to the organization’s transparency and accountability, demonstrated by meeting the standards set forth by the Charities Review Council, the MN Council of Nonprofits, and the NISC Accreditation Program. (We were re-accredited in 2007 and continue to be the only nationally accredited senior center in MN.) Our funders have recognized our organization’s commitment to excellence, and have supported our program’s mission to enrich the lives and promote the independent lifestyles of Senior Citizens in the Fergus Falls area. Services include: exercise programs, blood pressure checks, foot care, flu shots, Fergus Chore Corps, Senior Companion Program, one-day trips, Adopt-a-Class, fundraisers, seminars, classes, discussion groups, quilting, recreational games, and other social events. City staff (paid by City budget) administers all of these programs at the Senior Citizens Program with expenses paid by the Senior Citizens Program Activity Fund. The nonprofit has no staff of its own. All activities fulfill our mission of enriching the lives or promoting the independent lifestyles of senior citizens in the Fergus Falls area Recently, through the generosity of those funders, and our commitment to meeting the reserve guidelines set forth by the Charities Review Council, we installed $30,000 worth of senior-friendly exercise equipment in our senior center. This has enabled us to serve a broader segment of our senior population, in addition to providing the opportunity for seniors to be healthier so that they may grow stronger to live independently longer. | | | NON-CASH DONATIONS
